My Reflection!
Finally, I have reached the end of my film opening project. This has been a very unique experience that has taught me a lot about film production and the editing process. There were many unexpected problems that arose due to the Coronavirus outbreak, but I am grateful that I was able to work around them and continue to create a film opening that I am proud of.
When I first began to plan my film opening, I switched around many aspects of the film. I changed the plot twice and I altered the costume design as a result. While this may seem like a set back and a waste of time, I did not fall behind at all and I continued to produce a quality film opening. This project has taught me a lot about planning and adjusting the problems along the way. I know for the future that I should not expect everything to go perfectly according to my plans. And that is not necessarily a bad thing.
Another thing I learned while filming was that I should not be such a perfectionist. Since I filmed by myself with a tripod, it was hard for me to get the perfect shot. I wasted so much time trying to make every little thing perfect that it drove me crazy. I learned that editing can go a long way and I shouldn't get to anxious or frustrated over the little things.
Throughout this process, I worked well on schedule and did not leave anything for the last minute. I am super proud of myself for that since I usually procrastinate a lot. COVID-19 has given me a lot of time to reflect and brainstorm good ideas.
It was a fun experience to create the costume and make up designs. That was my favorite part of the project. In school I don't usually get projects that involve a lot of creativity, so this was fun and different to complete. It didn't even feel like I was completing a school project since I loved working on my film opening. The only thing that drove me insane was editing. I am so indecisive and I could not decide was shots to include. I had more footage than time and it was hard for me to choose what was worth leaving in.
I believe that my film opening will be different from the others since none of my audio will come directly from the footage I filmed. All of it will be recorded audio, music, or sound effects. This was not originally planned, but I think this will be a fun addition to my final product.
Overall, I am very excited to share my film opening with you all! I worked very hard on this for quite some time and it is crazy to think that this journey is almost over. I feel like I was just drawing my storyboard yesterday! This project has taught me a lot about time management and the filming process. I hope you all enjoy my film opening!

More Editing Updates!
At this point, my project is almost done! I have finished editing and I am currently working on the audio and music. When I was filming, it was impossible to find a time where everyone in my house was completely silent. Since there wasn't much dialogue anyway, I decided to cut out all the audio from the footage and fully rely on sound effects and music. I will be using simple effects that are free on WeVideo to convey simple sounds such as a sigh, footsteps, and more. I am excited for everyone to see the final product.
Besides the audio, the title screen and credits are the last thing I have to complete. This should be quite simple since I already picked out the font. I decided to make the title black and red to further portray elements of the horror genre. The credits will be in white because that will help it stand out from the backgrounds within the montage. I want to rearrange the credits on the screen in each shot for some variety as well.
As for the CCR, I have some ideas on what I will do. I want to create an interactive video that portrays my filming and editing process. I feel like this is the most efficient way to complete the CCR at this point in time.
Overall, the Coronavirus has given me a few set backs, but I can confidently say I worked around most of them.

Filming is Done!
Today I finished filming the final clips of my film opening. Now I can put all my focus towards editing. My next step is to put all the clips together in a smooth and efficient way. After that I will establish the title shot and the credits. I have already chosen a font so this part should be fairly easy. The most important aspect of the film that I have yet to finish is the music. There is no conversation in my piece, so I will rely heavily on sound effects and music. This is important to the horror genre and the classic feel of my film opening. Overall, I am excited to finish my film opening and get started on the CCR.
Looking back at my blog posts, I realized I never discussed makeup design. I wanted Emily Johnson to have running mascara and a sad look. This is important to convey her sadness over her sister's death. Not only that, but makeup is important to her character and her personality. Here are some photos of the finishing product.
Not only that, but I altered the costume design as I began to film. Emily Johnson is a teenager that wears very trendy clothing, but I realized she would not be wearing these styles while mourning her sister's death. Therefore, she is wearing a hoodie with messy hair in the film. Now I can definitely say my blogs are up to date and I could not be happier with my progress.

Title Fonts!
Today I decided to choose a font for the title shot and the credits. Fonts are very important because it establishes the film's identity and grabs the viewers' attention. Furthermore, the font style of the title and credits can foreshadow what genre the film embraces. Therefore, I have to be very selective when choosing a font for my film.
I researched the fonts of successful horror movies and television shows. All of these fonts have become iconic to their respective films and contribute to the horror genre. Here are some of the fonts I viewed before selecting one for my film.
Nevertheless, I realized I never officially announce the title of my film opening. After finalizing my storyboard for the second time, I chose DeathNote for my film opening title. I chose this title because death threats and notes are the main object that advances the plot throughout the movie.
I was stuck between three fonts to use in the title shot. Here are what they look like:
I finally decided that font #3 would be perfect for the title slide, and font #1 would be perfect for the credits. Font #3 is very similar to handwriting which relates to the notes in the film, while Font #1is bold and easy to read despite the background. These fonts have a scary, bold feel to them which is ideal for my horror film opening.

Recording Audio!
Today I decided to record the audio that will appear on the radio station within my film opening. I finalized the script last week after doing some more research. Using a radio station is an efficient and subtle way to introduce the important information to the audience. My goal with this audio is to allude to conflict and provide more background information. I will reveal the setting, date, and the death of Sammy Johnson within this audio. Not only that, but I will allude to conflict with corresponding shots.
Many horror films use this method to convey information. For example, The Purge (2013) uses the car radio to explain what the Purge is. It provides important information to the audience about the conflict that is yet to come. This scene is mainly what inspired me to use a radio broadcast to introduce the conflict.
It will be difficult to record this audio during quarantine, since my family is very loud and we cannot leave the house. I will try my best and edit any extra sounds out as well. I will need my father or my brother to record with me since there are two main broadcasters in my script. This should't be difficult since none of them have much to do nowadays. I am excited to record the audio and take a break from editing/filming.
This is the radio I will be using as a prop in my film. It is slightly smaller than I anticipated, but it is perfect regardless of its size.
